How I Finally Decluttered My Craft Room
When it comes to craft room organization, do you find yourself stuck in an endless cycle of getting organized, only to have it become a complete and utter mess days later? If so, you are not alone. I have been struggling with this same cycle for years and I want to share with you some of the things I did to get started with my craft room organization, breaking this cycle and reorganizing my craft room to work best for me.

Craft Room Organization- My Starting Point
A year ago, I made a video and set out some goals for 2021 to help keep my craft space clean. I followed through on quite a few of them, but I still found myself in the same cycle of clean then very messy. Instead of blaming myself for not being able to keep my space clean, I decided to flip the switch and start evaluating my craft room space and see how I could organize my craft supplies and craft room furniture to make it easier for myself.
A New Approach To Craft Room Organization
This brought me to discovering the book, Struggle Care by KC Davis, which I highly recommend if you also struggle with keeping your physical space organized and tidy. Knowing where to start with organizing or reorganizing your craft room can be overwhelming! One new approach to my craft room organization that I learnt from Struggle Care is before I started reorganizing, I tidied up a bit first versus trying to do everything at once and feeling overwhelmed.
I removed any trash or items that shouldn't be there, such as dishes or water bottles, and took care of the trash. Then I put away all of the craft supplies, tools and equipment that had a home. After that, I gathered all of the items that didn't have a home and made a pile in the middle of the room.
Craft Room organization Hack: Creating Zones
Once everything was back in its place, I looked around to see if there were any areas that had too much stuff. If there was, I removed some of the items and added them to the pile. I then moved some items around to create zones in my space, grouped together my projects and localized everything to keep them close together. This was an easy step for a more streamlined process.
I also thought about the activities or projects that seemed to create the most clutter and mess. For example, when I do my live stream every Monday, I end up with a lot of stuff everywhere. To contain all of my supplies, I got a cart from Michaels and put everything that I need for a live stream in it.
A Craft Room That Works For Me
Once I had my space organized, I still had the pile in the middle of my room. To find a home for all of these items, I utilized wall space and bought storage from Michaels and Ikea. I also asked myself if I truly needed the items in the pile. If the answer was no, I got rid of them.
Organizing my space has helped me break the messy clean cycle, declutter and I am now able to spend less time cleaning and organizing my craft room and more time creating.
