Recommended Supplies for Sublimation
DIY Teacher Gift Idea #1: Sublimation Tote Bag
Let’s dive right in! Our first DIY gift is a tote bag. This is perfect for teachers who have a lot of stuff to carry around or need to bring home papers to grade.
To create a cute teacher tote bag, you’ll need to find a PNG on Creative Fabrica and download it. Extract it and open it in Adobe Illustrator. Then, from there open an 8.5 x 14 legal-sized canvas. This is the biggest your printer can print, so you’ll need to create your design that stays within those constraints.
Once your design is completed, import the SVG and then copy and paste it into the legal-sized document. Make it as big as you can and customize it to make it your own. You may need to rotate your image to make it a bit wider depending on the size of the bag you are using. Once you’re happy with it, print it out and tape it onto the tote bag.
Make sure it is taped down and that you use butcher paper over the top. Push it up so the straps are hanging over the top and press it at 385 degrees for 45 seconds. You can customize this tote bag in all sorts of different ways, making it a fun and personalized gift.

DIY Teacher Gift Idea #2: Pencil or Pen Pouch
Next up is a pencil bag or pen bag. I found the perfect graphic for these pens pouches “teaching with flair” as Flair Pens are a favorite of mine to grade with. If you also love Flair pens, you will probably also love creating your own rhinestone pen either for yourself or as an added teacher gift, you can find that tutorial here.
Similar to the tote bag, create a design in Adobe Illustrator and print it onto sublimation paper. Cut it down and tape it to the bag. Put some butcher paper in between the bag to make sure it doesn’t ruin anything. Put the zipper off the edge to avoid it melting in the heat press.
Press it at 356 degrees Fahrenheit for 120 seconds and peel away the paper.
DIY Teacher Gift Idea #3: Message Board with Sublimation Custom Accents
The last project for your teacher’s next gift is a message board. These message boards are created with 9” x 12” dry erase boards with endless possibilities. Peel away the protective sheet, design your message in Adobe Illustrator and print it onto two sheets of paper, if needed. Cut it down and tape it to the board. Make sure to put butcher paper on the bottom and top of the board and press it at 400 degrees for 70 seconds. You can use regular dry erase markers on these boards and create a word of the day, objectives, or any other message you want to put on there.
