Supplies you NEED to get started with Sublimation
Sublimation is a fun and exciting craft that allows you to create permanent designs on a variety of different items. However, getting started with sublimation can be a bit daunting, especially when it comes to figuring out what supplies you need. In this blog post, we will walk you through all of the essential supplies that you will need to get started with sublimation.
Before I outline all of my recommendations, I do have a FREE PDF Download you can access here:
The first thing you need for sublimation is a sublimation printer.
There are a few different options when it comes to sublimation printers. The most common option is to purchase a printer that is specifically made for sublimation, such as a Sawgrass printer. Another option is to convert a regular printer to be able to use for sublimation.
I truly believe getting a sawgrass printer is great for beginners. I know it’s more expensive than converting an Epson Ecotank but here is why I think you should really consider a Sawgrass Printer:
Least amount of tech involved
1:1 onboarding call
Video lessons to walk you through the set up process
Sawgrass Creative Studio
The second thing you need for sublimation is sublimation ink.
The ink that you need will depend on your printer. If you are using an Epson EcoTank printer, you will need to purchase sublimation ink that is specifically designed for that type of printer. If you are using a Sawgrass printer, you will need to purchase the corresponding ink for that printer. It is important to note that in order for sublimation to work, you must use sublimation ink on a sublimation printer with sublimation supplies.
Another essential supply that you will need for sublimation is sublimation paper.
Sublimation paper is specially designed to absorb the large amount of ink that is required to transfer your design onto your blank. It is important to use sublimation paper in order to achieve a high-quality and permanent design.
You will also need specific blanks that are made for sublimation.
These blanks have a special coating on them that absorbs the sublimation ink. It is important to purchase your blanks from a reputable company that tests their products to ensure that they are of good quality and that they will take your ink. Some popular options for purchasing sublimation blanks include Pro World and Craft Haven.

The final essential supply that you will need for sublimation is a heat source.
This can include a heat press, convection oven, or a Tumbler press. A heat press is great for flat items such as ornaments and apparel.
However, if you plan on doing drinkware such as mugs or Tumblers, you will need a convection oven or a mug press.
While a convection oven is more accessible and less expensive, many people have trouble getting the pressure and temperature right. On the other hand, a mug press is more consistent and faster, but it is a larger investment.
Ultimately, it is up to you to decide which heat source works best for you and your projects. Read more about why I recommend a Mug Press
